A BRIEF HISTORY

On the initiative of Prof. Ir. H. Buchori Rachman and his associates, Bina Darma Foundation was established on December 28, 1993 with the issuance of a certificate by Notary Alia Ghani, SH, no. 95. A change in the organization of its founders was certified on March 10, 2001, by Notary Thamrin's certificate no. 6. The goal of this Foundation is to actively participate in helping the government developing the nation and educating its citizens .
Having adequate infrastructure and facilities to adminster higher educational programs in South Sumatra, the Foundation founded two colleges, that is, Bina Darma College of Information and Computer Science (BDCIC) and Bina Darma College of Economics (BDCE).

BDCIC was granted a legal status TERDAFTAR (REGISTERED) through a Ministerial Decree of Department of National Education No. 027/D/O/1994 dated May 18, 1994. However, this college is currently an accreditated one, having two undergraduate programs or departments, that is, Information System and Information Technology. It has been accrediatated by the National Accreditation Board of Department of National Education throught the issuance of SK No. 038/BAN-PT/Ak-IV/I/2001 dated January 25, 2001.

In 1995, BDCIC added a one-year diploma program majoring in Information Management and Computerized Accounting, which was accreditated through a Ministerial Decree of Department of National Education No. 488/DIKTI/ Kep/1995 dated November 29, 1995. In 1998, BDCIC added three-year diploma programs majoring in Information Management, Computerized Accounting, Information Technology. These diploma programs are currently accreditated as TERAKREDITASI (ACCREDITATED) through a Decree No. 001/BAN-PT/Ak-I/Dpl/III/2002 dated March 8, 2002.
BDCE is authorized to administer educational programs in the field of economics through a Ministerial Decree of Department of National Education No. 046/D/O/1994 dated July 7, 1994. It has gained an accreditation of TERAKREDITASI for its two undergraduate majors in Management and Accounting based on a Decree of BAN DIKTI No. 021/BAN-PT/Ak-IV/VIII/2000. In 1998, based on a Decree of DIKTI No. 127/DIKTI/Kep/ 1998, BDCE added two three-year diploma programs majoring in Corporate Management and Business Administration with an accreditation of TERDAFTAR (REGISTERED). These two programs, however, are currently in the status of TERAKREDIATSI (ACCREDITATED) based on a Decree of BAN DIKTI No. 001/BAN-PT/AkI/Dpl/III/ 2002.

On April 30, 2001, based on Notary Thamrin's certificate No. 36, the Foundation accrued the management of College of Foreign Languages Graha Darma. The Foundation reorganized it as College of Foregin Languages Bina Darma (CFLBD) based on a Ministerial Decree of Department of National Education No. 143/D/O/2001 dated Augsust 27, 2001.
The three colleges were then merged into one university under the management of the Foundation based on a Ministerial Decree of Department of National Education No. 112 /D/ 0/ 2002 dated June 7, 2002. BDCIC is called Fakultas Ilmu Computer (College of Computer Science), BDCE Fakultas Ekonomi (College of Economics) and CFLBD Fakultas Bahasa dan Sastra (College of Language and Literature). The management of Bina Darma University is also charge of two other colleges. The College of Enginering offers undergraduate programs in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Agricultural Engineering. The College of Psychology offers one undergraduate program in Psychology.

Bina Darma University, located in South Sumatra), is a private university that teaches and develop knowledge, skills and professional competence through its five colleges and 18 departments. It maintains its strong commitment to produce quality graduates ready for employment and acceptable in the society.
